Step 3 - The Breeding Cycle

The Breeding Cycle

The following method is the most efficient way to breed battle-ready Pokémon.

But before you begin, you must first choose the:
  • Species
  • Nature
  • Ability or Hidden Ability
  • Moveset, especially egg moves
  • Five desired IVs
  • Pokéball
Then begins the SNAP, SNAPE, Stud cycle.

Step 0 - Get a female of the species you want

Step 1 - SNAP Mother

Step 2 - SNAPE Mother

Step 3 - Stud Rush

Repeat Step 3, replacing the mother anytime the child has better IVs and the desired ability. The father should be a Super Stud, and will never need be replaced, unless some unique IVs, such as 0 Speed, is desired.

Efficient Movements

Every time you take 256 steps, parents in the Day-Care have a chance of having a baby. So, ride your bicycle exactly 128 steps from the Day-Care Man, turn around (remember the spot), and return to him to check for eggs.

The chance that a baby will be born every 256 step depends on the parents:
Same Species + Different Trainer ID = "The two seem to get along very well." = 70%
Different Species + Different Trainer ID = "The two seem to get along well." = 50%
Same Species + Same Trainer ID = "The two seem to get along well." = 50%
Different Species + Same Trainer ID = "The two don't really seem to like each other very much." = 20%

When eggs are in your party, two numbers affect when the egg will hatch:
  • The eggs cycles until hatching (depends on Pokémon)
  • The steps per egg cycle (257 steps base)
Flame Body halves the number of egg cycles until hatching.

The Level 3 Hatching O-Power halves the number of steps in an egg cycle. Since this power takes time to recharge, I recommend using using it only when there are more than four eggs in your party.

So, using the Level 3 Hatching O-Power and Flame Body will reduce the hatching steps by 75%.

In X&Y, fly to Centrigo Plaza in Lumiose City, and ride in a circle to quickly hatch eggs in your party without having to steer the bicycle.
