When left to their natural course, the passing down of natures and IVs is unpredictable. Natures are totally random. Only three of the 12 parental IVs pass down.
There are two items that make these processes more predictable: the Destiny Knot, and the Everstone.
Destiny Knot
When an elder holds a Destiny Knot while breeding, five of the elders' IVs pass down, instead of three. This is an essential item.
In X&Y, the Destiny Knot can be got from the maid in the hotel in Cyllage City, and from Beauty Aimee in Lumiose City. Beauty Aimee can be found in Vert Plaza, but only after defeating the handful of trainers in the other plazas.
In ORAS, it can be got from the Young Couple in 1F, Sea Mauville.
Everstone
An elder holding the Everstone while breeding passes down its nature. This is an essential item.In X&Y, the Everstone can be got in Geosenge Town, leftmost house from the Scientist.
In ORAS, it can be got on B2F, Granite Cave, using the Mach Bike.
Bicycle
One must run around a lot while breeding. This burdensome task is done much quick on a bicycle. This is an essential item.
In X&Y, you get the bike in the Cyllage City Bicycle Shop.
In ORAS, in Rydell's Cycles in Mauville City, next to Rout 118.
Lucky Egg
Holding a Lucky Egg grants 150% of the experience that would have otherwise been got. This bonus makes leveling Pokémon to learn moves much quicker. This is a useful item.
In X&Y, you can find the Lucky Egg:
In X&Y, you can find the Lucky Egg:
- From the Lady on the left side of the Coumarine City hotel lobby upon showing her a Pokémon with maximum friendship.
- From wild Chansey in the Friend Safari.
In ORAS:
- From wild Pelipper and Happiny.
Oval Charm
The Oval Charm increases the breeding rate of Pokémon in the Day-Care, which means eggs are laid more often. This is a useful item.
In X&Y, show Professor Sycamore all three Kalos Pokédexs once you have seen every Pokémon within them.
In ORAS, show Professor Birch your Pokédex once you have seen all Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex, besides Jirachi.

When a Pokémon holding an Amulet Coin defeats a trainer, it doubles the prize money you receive. This bonus can be stacked with the Prize Money O-Power to make lots of money, which you will need for Daycare fees.
Money and Experience
You need money to pay for Daycare fees. The best way to earn money is at the Cafés in Lumiose. Café le Wow is the most profitable. Each Pokémon in le Wow is level 63. To maximize your profit:
- Be stylish, which earns you a $10,000 discount
- Start Prize Money O-Power before you begin
- Choose to Double Battle, which is quickest.
- Equip one of your two Pokémon with an Amulet Coin
- Win all the battles in the requested turn limit
- Sell the Balm Mushrooms in Poké Marts
Equipping a low-level Pokémon with the Lucky Egg, turning on the highest Exp. Point Power, and using Exp. Share is a great way to level up low-level Pokémon. Warning EVs are passed through the Exp. Share, so EV-train your Pokémon before you level them up at the Café .
